Lucid Dreaming App – What is the current status?
I can hardly believe this site started 5 years ago with an attempt to create a mobile app for lucid dream induction. I was very optimistic, but very ignorant about the complexity of the human body. What I made was a couple apps with tools to help with lucid dream induction. Before there were no such tools, and I still remember buying a pocket timer in 2004 to time my reality checks.
The world has come a long way since then, but there is still no lucid dreaming app that really works. I intend to continue working on the app when my financial situation allows me.
The human body is very complex
For the last 5 years I’ve been researching the human body from various angles – everything from neuroscience to behavior to biology and cognitive science. I want to know how it works, and I’ve read many research papers on the subject, asked many questions and got many answers.
I spent a long time looking at human “hardware”, and only this year did I seriously look into “software” – the causes of human behavior, particularly in context of relationships.
I found Evolutionary Psychology
There are dozens if not hundreds of flavors of psychology out there, and most of them are crap – they build their theories in the clouds and soon the flaws become evident. There’s a different kind of psychology – the one that attempts to link our behavior to our genetics. The science has incredible insight into our behavior, as it looks at most behavior from two viewpoints:
- How does this help me survive?
- How does this help me reproduce?
In particular, the science suggests that humans have not evolved to adapt to modern environment – the change is too large and too fast. Instead, our bodies and brains are stuck somewhere in the stone age, 25,000-100,000 years ago. We are built by our genes to live in small hunter gatherer tribes. Our social and mating dynamics have a lot of shortcuts which are focused on that environment and are maladaptive to the present.
